FAQ
- WTF IS A WET SPECIMEN?
Wet specimens are any biological sample (such as an animal, an organ, or other organism(s) or their parts) which have been put through a multi-step chemical process to preserve them and prevent and slow down the progression of the organism’s decomposition. During this process, the sample(s) may be injected with preservatives then left to soak for a while. After, the sample(s) will be removed from the preservative bath and placed into a new jar filled with water to leech them of the excess chemicals. Typically, wet specimens are found in laboratories or museums for the purposes of research and documentation; However, especially in modern times, wet specimens have been collected and put on display in the homes of those who have an appreciation for odd and obscure things.
- WHERE & HOW DO I SOURCE MY SPECIMENS?
All of the biological samples & wet specimens that I offer for sale have been sourced with the environment in mind. This means that I make a conscious decision to not kill or capture any animals, or over-harvest any plants or fungi for the purposes of being included in my art and sold in my store. All of the animals offered for sale here at The Leeching Jar were sourced locally and would have died from natural causes, the details of each animal's cause of death will be listed in the individual item’s description and/ or you may receive a card in your order with your specimen's details on it.
All of the plant and fungi samples I collect have been harvested locally in small batches. I do not purchase specimens or samples to resell.
- DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?
No. Currently, The Leeching Jar ships only within the U.S. We're sorry for any inconvenience.
